‘Starship Troopers’ Is Getting A Remake

Back in 1997, the world was treated to the first film adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein’s classic science fiction novel, Starship Troopers. Unfortunately, for fans of the book, the movie was not faithful to the source material. In fact, it was something of an adaptation in name only. While the film on its own is a fun sci-fi movie with excellent CGI aliens (For the time, let’s be fair), it hasn’t resonated very well though it has spawned two sequels, an animated series, and other flimsy adaptations. Fans of Heinlein may finally be able to rejoice and see their beloved book come to life now that Columbia Pictures has given the go to reboot the series.

There are very few details about the upcoming reboot, but we do know that it will be written by Mark Swift (Friday the 13th, Freddy vs. Jason, and Baywatch) and Damian Shannon (Friday the 13th, Freddy vs. Jason, and Baywatch), the two scribes who recently penned the upcoming Baywatch movie. Producing the film will be Neal H. Moritz (I am Legend, 21 Jump Street, and The Fast and the Furious) who worked on the studio’s remake of Total Recall. Given the failure of the Total Recall reboot, hopefully, Moritz will have learned his lesson and will come in a bit more grounded than his previous work.

The new movie will not be a remake of the 1997 film, but will be based off the 1959 novel, which is something almost all science-fiction fans will appreciate. There is no word on casting so the chances of seeing Caspar Van Dien (Con Man, Sleepy Hollow, and Army Dog) or Denise Richards (The World is Not Enough, Wild Things, and Valentine) reprise their roles (Which were not in the novel) is unlikely.
